Boun Bang Fai Rocket Festival

Every year in May there is a rocket festival held in Luang Prabang, Laos. It is held during the rain season in Laos. Everyone around comes and watches the spectacle as they hopefully launch high in the air on this day only. There is always lots of  LaoLao (a whiskey made locally out of rice) for the person who launches their rocket the highest in the sky. Anyone who fires a  dud gets nothing but taunted. The reason the people hold this festival is to honor and pray to their rain god for abundant rain for their rice crops.
What do you think about this festival?

  1. This sounds like a very cool and fun event to tour and go to. I didn't know something like this existed. If I were one of the people who made a rocket, I would just be happy to be there even if I were one of the people who made a dud rocket. Not really, because it would ruin the entire meaning of being there. To launch rockets. Would you be upset if your rocket was a dud?
