Don't Take a 15 Minute Walk Around Israel

It kind of sickens me... how so many people are affected by this, hurt by this, because of the fight for a little strip of land. I can't stop thinking about how that palestinian girl starting crying since her dad was in prison, and the friends that the children lost.

It's pretty clear that this has impacted the way I see this conflict.

Anyways, after watching some of "Promises",  the way I'd say I learned from it is how I sort of saw it from both points of views, and I really got to see what the conflict was and felt like from both sides. I noticed both sides seemed to say alike things, a lot of them believed that it was their land. Going back into all the history of everything, it is both their homes, just at different times. Even though Jews had been there first, I feel like it isn’t fair to call it their home, as Palestinians have stayed there and would definitely be reluctant to give away what they call home.
This whole conflict seems to be an endless cycle of hatred and greed. I believe if both sides can understand each other a little better, the conflict can become less violent. However, it seems like Palestinians and Jews have created a wall between them, built far back when the conflict started. The children haven’t even met the other side, and a lot of them still despise each other. Think about the many that grow up hating the other side, (which is only about 15 minutes away) when they don’t even know what their enemies really are. They don’t realize these enemies could easily be their friends. Their aggressiveness towards the other side… doesn’t really bring a whole lot of peace. Also, is there another reason why Jews don’t let the Palestinians into Israel besides for their safety? Since, just IF, what if they could agree to share the land, so Palestinians can also live there, as well as Jews, together. The way it seems right now is that unless there can be some empathy and giving between both sides, this war will only continue until a not-so-happy-ending.

I’m pretty sure the children will get along fine, especially since they haven’t done anything to them, as children, and they probably could find a lot in common. Some could probably be easily friends. I don’t think they would like to talk about the war, especially since they are on opposing sides, but they may talk about their regular life, like how the twins chatted with the Palestinian boy. They talked about favorite sports and things, they seemed pretty happy. I wonder, though, if their perspective of this whole conflict will change once they see how some people from the other side aren’t really bad.

What do you think causes this war to go on?
