Architectural thinking in Ghana

Ghana is up and rising in the world of architecture. Ghanaians use to have to go to architectural schools in Europe or the United states. They would bring back foreign techniques and materials and create foreign buildings. Now architects in Ghana have the opportunity to learn from their home country because of a new wave of talent emerging. Ghana’s two architectural colleges are hoping to impress students with the country’s rich building heritage. Ghana is a timber exporter, an architect in Ghana said "Wood is actually our material... we are in the forest belt. Wood is in abundance and we are known as a timber exporter. But the weird thing is that the knowledge to build in wood has disappeared.” People in Ghana think building a wood house is “impossible”. Building wood houses has changed the architectural thinking of Ghana.
