dora's ever lasting memory

“Dora the Explorer” started being made in the late 1990’s and first aired in 2000, but before it aired, a lot went on. The creators of the show were told to come up with the next BIG hit, finally they came up with a girl who really engaged with the audience, explored, and was a Latina. Some of the writers wanted her to have a single culture, but ultimately they decided to make her multi cultural to ensure that all kids with Latinx backrounds can relate to Dora. When they finally completed Dora the Explorer and it aired, it was immediately a big hit. Later in the interview they asked people from that period of time when it first came out how it affected them and almost every answer was that it made them feel safe. My point here is that people who are white and watched this show just thought that it was entertainment but it had a purpose, to make a impact on young latinx kids. Now i’ll challenge you the next time you see Dora on tv don’t think of it as entertainment but instead think of it as a show that makes an impact.

  1. Well done, Sawyer! I think your concluding moment was when you pointed out that the show was more than imply entertainment; that it had a purpose. Also, your use of the word "Latinx." Do you know the history behind that? (Using it is an excellent thing, btw!)
    Keep it up!
