You probably know about the country Yemen, but did you know that it used to be two separate nations? Before 1990 Yemen was divided into Yemen Arab Republic (North Yemen), and People's Democratic Republic Of Yemen (South Yemen). Unlike North Korea and South Korea, The two nation's relations were mostly friendly. North Yemen was formed when the Ottoman Empire collapsed. At the time South Yemen was a British colony. After an insurgency, the United Kingdom was forced to withdraw from its colony. Than after a civil war in South Yemen, on May 22, 1990, they unified into the Republic of Yemen, also known as Yemen.
