Is the country called Turkey the cause for the popular thanksgiving bird's name? Actually, yes. I always thought that this was a coincidence when I was little, but no. A turkey's name is, in fact, not Turkey. It's guinea fowl. People in Europe didn't have much to eat, so when merchant came from Turkey, they would bring turkey's to trade.
