Dora’s Lasting Magic

In 1998 Nickelodeon get an opportunity to make a new show, but late 1990’s come a new TV show (Blues Clues) it is special for help kids to expand their vocabulary, so they have the idea of making something similar and there come the idea of make Dora’s show,and you know that in each episode they have a backpack to carry some tools, a map and they visit 3 places in each episode.

You know that Dora is Latina and bilingual, her last name is Marcas and her age is 7. In all the episodes she is accompanied by friends Boots the Monkey, originally Dora was going to be a little white girl but they changed into a Latina girl, so she can be bilingual to encourage kids to be open minded about new languages.

The idea of the show is to try to help kids in their vocabulary and don’t make a wall between the languages they tries to build a bridge and help kids to learn more.

Ever think your friend makes no sense? Well, sometimes they're right

So, my friend and I argue a lot about different things. The “relevant” topic we were arguing about today was facial recognition. Here is how I thought about it. 

“People shouldn’t be complaining about their privacy if they’re safety is the thing being boosted.”I said. 

My friend gave me the look like I was the stupidest person on Earth. 

The discussion continued.

“I think the police are breaking the fourth amendment, stupid.”my friend said. 

“The Fourth Amendment states, “the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects….” and they are not breaking that rule. They are making the world more secure.”

My friend replied, “After that it states and for no searches and seizures. Their faces are being searched without permission.”

I shot back,” Are you saying a criminal could use that as an excuse?” 

She screamed, “That’s my opinion!”

I replied, “Then why did we just have an argument about this?” 

She said, “Because I wanted to.”

That was the end of it. I didn’t think that it was important at the time, but now I'm thinking. What do you guys have to say, do you side with me, or my friend?

You Need to Find Someone, Have a Picture of Their Face

Modern Technology is way more advanced now. Now, we can find out who someone is from
just seeing there face. We also can find out almost everything about someone from the internet.
The internet (Google,Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc) should increase their public
safety. I think that the face scanning thing is good but only the Police, FBI, and other federal
agencies should have access to it. Do you agree or disagree with using the face scanning thing.

Dora the Explore-ah

If Dora was created today I would have her speak and sound the same, she would look the same, and she would say the same things but I would make her taller and I would, shorten the time after she asked the watchers to repeat a word. When I watched Dora for the first few times I thought she was as short as I was. It was also super annoying how you would have to wait for 20 seconds before she said “Good job,” or something like that. I wish I was more like her than I would be really good at spanish and my grade in it would be an A+ not an A-. If she morphed into a real person I think she would NOT like our nation and how our president is trying to stop people from Mexico coming in through the border by building a wall. Do you think the wall will actually come up?

The 21st Century Dora?

If Dora was created today I think the same amount of people would still watch the show even though there is discrimination right now against people from “across the border”. I think the show might even bring the U.S.A together and show people that everyone is created equally and that there is no superior race. Maybe the president could figure out that he doesn't need to build a wall between the U.S and Mexico. Also I think it could be good because the younger generations can start learning Spanish at a young age and I believe that that’s a very valuable skill to have. The creators of Dora would probably make the show more realistic and take out some of the cartoonish elements. I think by making it more realistic the show would appeal to older generations. What do you think Dora would be like in modern day?

Bears Beets Battlestar Galactica (And Dora Beats Baby Shark)

Dora, Dora, Dora the Explor-ah! Who woulda thunk it, right? I mean, so much THOUGHT into a little kids show?!!? But the big reveal shows not only all of the people involved in the decision-making process but the importance of having characters that represent and reflect the true faces of America. When they wanted to make this show, they became painfully aware that too-few minority faces, in this case Hispanic, were on TV as positive role models. But that was a long time ago, right? RIGHT? I mean movies, TV shows, books...they are much better now, correct? For every Jim, Pam, Dwight and Michael, you've got a Kelly, a Stanley, a Darrel, and an Oscar, right? There is really only one way to know, and that is to do some research on your own. Think you will be surprised? For the record, I won't hold my breath.

Blog Life 101: A Starter Course

Welcome to the Blog! We will be using this throughout the year as a class forum. A few simple rules for posting and commenting apply...such as:

Posts

• Must have a catchy, relevant title. (This post’s title is Blog Life 101: A Starter Course)
• Must be 75+ words in length.
• Must be free of any spelling errors. (Word choice errors are not spelling errors. For example; there/their/they’re, choose/chose, loose/lose, to/too/two, etc…)
• Must end with an interesting exit strategy. (A question or challenge to the reader)

Comments

• Must be 50+ words in length.
• Must follow the same spelling guidelines as posts.
• Must address something specific the writer has said and *must add something new to the post (see below)
• Must also end with an intriguing question for the writer.

Two additional rules:

• You must be the 1st or 2nd person to comment on a writer’s post. If there are already two comments, choose another student’s post.
• Writers should (not must) respond briefly to all comments.

THE GOLDEN BLOGGING RULE: No Negative Comments. Ever. Politely disagreeing and giving an example of why you might disagree is certainly ok. Respond to posts the way you would want others to respond to your posts.

Lastly, I suggest you use Google Docs to write your posts and comments. Why? Two reasons: One, it has a word count feature under the Tools menu. And two, the spell checking feature is going to be far better than the one in Blogger (though it does not distinguish between “i” and “I”...but of course I do and you should know this anyway!). You can then copy and paste your work into the blog.
